Bukowina Tatrzanska: Highlander Carnival

Bukowina Tatrzanska is situated only at 25 minutes drive away from Zakopane. In February this town will turn into the Polish capital of carnival! All this because of the famous Highlander Carnival, during which you can not only sing and dance, but also participate in a race of highlander horse-drawn sleighs. The first regional edition of this carnival in 1973 gained so much recognition that a year later became the National Competition of Carol Singing Groups. But singing is not the only part of the event. All participants can take part in a folk dance competition and couples dance competition. Age is not important here: young dance together with older, creating a beautiful blend of tradition and innovation. Attractions do not end here: highlanders offer also a shooting competition in regional costumes, the Tatra sheepdogs show and highly popular Kumoterki race (highlander horse-drawn sleigh). In the evenings you can watch plays performed by a local theater group. Fans of folk certainly canot miss the exhibitions and fairs organized by the Association of Folk Artists and BukowinaVanishing Trades School. Bukowina- colorful, full of music and joy is a member of the International Federation of Carnival Cities just as Rio de Janeiro. It can tempt at this time every lover of folklore and fun!
