Shtetl Routes project – a new cultural tourist trail

This year, in the Lubelskie Voivodeship, the cultural route of the former Jewish towns called Shtetl begins a new season. These towns are spread through the borders of Poland, Ukraine and Belarus. The project raises international interest.

Jews’ traditions have been preserved in such towns. The Jews communities counted often 70-80% and even 100% of the population.

The main purpose of the project is to attract tourists.

Within the framework of the project, a new portal was created, bringing together more than 60 Shtetls. There are three-dimensional mock-ups of towns, photographs, memories. The portal provides detailed tour plans. In addition, a guidebook in the form of a book, entitled “Travels through the Forgotten Continent. Shtetl Routes.” has been published, describing places such as Sejny, Knyszyn, Tykocin, Kock, Włodawa, Kazimierz Dolny, Wojsławice (Poland), Dawidgródek, Stolin, Pińsk, Kobryń, Horodyszcze, Oszmiana (Belarus) oraz Bełz, Żółkiew, Busk, Krzemieniec, Kowel or Ostróg (Ukraine).
