The Roztocze National Park was created on may 10th 1974 and is located in the central-eastern part of Poland, in the lubelskie region. It contains the most precious natural areas of Roztocze Tomaszowskie.
The forests of the park are characterized by huge dynamism of development and good wholesomeness. It is manifested by the ease of natural revivals, as well as the longevity and notable sizes of trees, many of which reach monumental sizes. Most of the trees in the Park are pines, firs and beeches. The other 30 types include oak, alder, lime, birch-tree, spruce, larch, hornbeam sycamore, ash and maple. Many of them, (like the firs and beeches) can reach the limits of compact occurrence.
The flora of the park is rich and diverse Among more than 700 types of vascular plants you can find – depending on the settlement and the shape of the area – typical lowland plants as well as mountain types of plants. The wildlife of the park is equally rich. You can find all the typical forest animals here: the deer, the roe, the boar, the wolf, the fox, the badger, the marten, and by the water – the otter. The lives of local people were connected with the areas of today’s park for a very long time. During the wars, forests were giving shelter and served as a battle base, and during the times of peace, they provided food and wood. Numerous forest graves and monuments from different time periods – in Zwierzyniec and its surroundings – are the evidence of the eventful history of this place.
