The Hot Air Balloon Picnic in Krosno

Located upon Wisłok, Krosno is a picturesque town with a monumental urban layout. Arguably the most beautiful place is the extensive, rectangular Market Square, partially surrounded by stonehouses originating from the 16th and 17th century. In the 15th century Franciscan church you can admire a baroque-styled Oświęcimowie chapel, as well as renaissance gravestones, created by Polish and Italian masters, including Jan Maria Padovano. In the renaissance Przemyśl Bishop Palace you can visit the Podkarpacie Museum, where you will be able to admire numerous exhibits, including Europe’s largest collection of kerosene lamps and an exhibit presenting the tradition of glass industry in Krosno.

In late April and early May, at the airport of the Podkarpacie Aeroclub in Krosno, the Hot Air Balloon Picnic is being organized. This is a massive event, which accompanies another event – the Mountain Hot Air Balloon Contest, which lasts several days and is very spectacular.
The contest gathers an average of 20-30 hot air balloons, which make an enormous impression. During the three-day event, the planned balloon competitions take place twice a day – at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. This is because of thermal conditions, which are the best at exactly that time of day. Although most people are not able to see much more than the majestic take-offs of the mighty and colorful balloons and the first stage of the flight, it is still worth getting up early in the morning.
The time between the competitions is filled with a program of attraction, which is slightly different every year.
