Gdansk: Private Tour to Stutthof Camp

Within only 1 hour drive from Gdansk, we can get to the first operating concentration camp on Polish territory– the Stutthof Camp. It was built by the Germans in 1939 in order to exterminate the Jewish and Polish elite from the Pomerania region and the Free City of Gdansk. At first, it functioned as a forced labour camp and then changed into a death camp. Thousands of people from many countries which arrived here were forced to work, have been regularly tortured and most of them were murdered in the gas chambers. The victims of these massive arrests were usually patriotic, educated, highly-situated and socially active members of Polish organisations. It is said that in total, 85 000 people were killed here. Today, on this enormous area of 20 hectares, operates the State Stutthof Museum which contains the relics of the past. Even though the subject of this tour is tragic, it is worth visiting this significant place and discover its history.
