Olsztyn: Tour to Lidzbark Warminski and Swieta Lipka

Do you know which Polish town is widely recognized as a Pearl of Warmia? The charmfull Lidzbark Warminski, of course. It was formerly the largest town of the region, a religious and cultural center. Today, it is a popular tourist destination with world famous attraction – a monumental Gothic Castle of Warmian Bishops. Approx. 50 km from Lidzbark, St. Mary’s Sanctuary in Swieta Lipka is situated. It is one of the most famous places of Marian devotion in this part of Europe. Famous organ recitals are something you cannot miss. Let us take you to those interesting places and make a stop in Reszel on the way – a small medieval town situated in the historical Warmia region, which can boast of architecturally-renowned monuments and various tourist attractions.

Tour itinerary:

  1. pick up from your hotel in Olsztyn at chosen time
  2. approx. 1 hour and 15 min drive from Olsztyn to Lidzbark Warminski by private, comfortable car/van with our private guide in chosen language
  3. up to 1 hour of sightseeing tour of the Old Town of Lidzbark with our private guide during which you will see:
  • Medieval town walls and High Gate; in the past, there were 3 city gates leading to the city. High Gate is the last one preserved,
  • the Grabowski Palace – a Baroque, two-story building; today exclusive Krasicki Hotel is located here,
  • Baroque-Neoclassical Krasicki Orangery, garden pavilion erected in 1711-1724,
  • Monument of Ignacy Krasicki, a three-meter statue, near the Krasicki Orangery
  • Gothic Collegiate church of Saints Peter and Paul – a late Gothic, red-brick church;
  • the neo-gothic interior with Baroque elements,

4. up to 1 hour of sightseeing of Gothic Castle of Warmian Bishops in Lidzbark Warminski with adjacent fortifications and towers – a fortified castle and palace from the 14th century

During the visit you will be able to see:

  • red-brick Gothic structure, one of the few architectural objects in Lidzbark Warminski that survived the destruction caused by World War II,
  • a two-story internal courtyard surrounded by charming cloisters (the only intact in Poland),
  • 14th century frescoes
  • architectural decorations of the chambers: various stellar vaults, paintings or portals,
  • Warmia Museum (armory, numismatic collection, extensive cellars with Gothic vaults, former prison, collection of silverware, dishes and paintings)

5. up to 1 hour drive from Lidzbark Warminski to Reszel – picturesque, medieval town
6. up to 1 hour of guided visit in Reszel during which you will be able to see:

  • Reszel Castle, constructed for approx. 50 years (1350-1401); since 2001, after numerous renovations, a hotel with restaurant, bar, an art gallery and a museum have been successfully operating here,
  • Church of St. Peter and Paul, built probably after 1360; it is a gothic, oriented, three-nave, hall building, without a separate chanel; one of the most important monuments of the city
  • brick defensive walls of the city
  • city hall,

7. free time for lunch (up to 1 hour)
8. up to 10 minutes drive from Reszel to Swieta Lipka
9. up to 1 hour of guided visit during which you will be able to see:

  • St. Mary’s Sanctuary in Swieta Lipka, one of the most important landmarked buildings of Late Baroque in northern Poland; the sanctuary consists of the church, arcaded cloisters and a convent.
  • the monumental altar made between 1712 – 1714 by the best sculptors,
  • pipe organ with decorative, moving figures and sculptures; probably the finest church instrument ever constructed, made by Johann Josua Mosengel in 1721.
  • the vault ceiling with ornate paintwork and frescoes (including images of Saint Casimir, Sigismund III and Hedwig of Silesia),

Special organ recitals are available everyday (last performance at 5pm) and you can join it after sightseeing.
