Olsztyn: Wolf’s Lair & Mamerki Bunkers tour
Located in the very heart of Masurian forests, the Wolf’s Lair is a must see for all enthusiasts of World War 2 history. It served as the headquarters of Adolf Hitler. Construction started in the autumn of 1940. The location was not accidental. The small town of Ketrzyn was situated very near the Russian border and the Hilter’s plan was to defeat Russians in a few months. He wanted to be as close as possible to the warfare. For a long time the Wolf’s Lair was the command center, a place of strategic decision making. Destruction of the complex took place in January 1945. The remains of the Wolf’s Lair are now available for visitors. Around 30 minutes drive from Wolf’s Lair, in the town of Mamerki, former Headquarters of the German Land Forces were located. The best preserved complex of German bunkers from World War II on the Polish area consists of 30 untouched concrete bunkers.
