Poznan: Lichen Sanctuary Tour
If you are interested in visiting one of the most important places of the Marian cult in Poland, we can take you to Lichen Stary to see the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lichen which is a very popular pilgrimage destination and at the same time one of the biggest churches in the country. It is also one of the tallest churches in the world. Every year, over a million pilgrims come to this sanctuary for prayer. In June 1999, the greatest of Poles also arrived here – Pope St. John Paul II. The area surrounding it also encourages visiting Lichen Stary thanks to its beautiful lakes and unspoiled nature. Despite the feeling that the village is located in the middle of nowhere, you will be very impressed by the size of the Basilica and its architecture. It is definitely a place that every Catholic should see.

Old part of the Sanctuary:
- St Dorothy’s Church – built in the neo-gothic shape with a Baroque interior,
- Tomasz Klossowski’s tomb – a symbolic tomb and the chapel depicting the scene of the apparition near Leipzig; two years after his death, there were apparitions of Our Lady to the shepherd Mikolaj Sikatka in the place where he had hung the painting
- Mikolaj Sikatka’s tomb – a symbolic tomb which witnessed the apparitions
- the Chapel of the Holy Cross – here you will find the crucifix damaged during the World War II which is highly revered by the faithful
- The Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lichen built in 1994-2004, the largest church in Poland:
- main nave of the basilica, which is 120 meters long and 77 meters wide,
- main icon of worship – the Image of Our Lady of Lichen, an oil copy of the painting of Our Lady of Rokitno Wielkopolski, made by unknown artist in the second half of the 18th century on a thin, larch board
- chapels of the lower basilica – the Holy Trinity constructed in 1996 is considered to be the oldest one (accommodates around 2,500 people); the other important chapel is the one dedicated to 108 Martyrs of World War II

The Licheń Sanctuary Tour was a wonderful escape from the city.
