Wroclaw: Tour to Berlin

Berlin – capital of Germany, the largest city in the country, very diverse and interesting. Its history started in the 13th century when the city was founded. After 1900 Berlin became a major world city, famous for its leadership roles in science, culture, higher education, diplomacy and military affairs. In gloomy times, between January 1933 to May 1945, the capital of the German Nazi Third Reich. As a consequence of World War II, destruction of buildings and infrastructure was nearly total in the central parts of Berlin and the city was divided into four sectors. The Berlin Wall, built in 1961 became a symbol of the Cold War. Today, Berlin is a city loved by both tourists and locals.

Tour itinerary:

  1. hotel pick up at chosen time,
  2. up to 4 hours drive from Wroclaw to Berlin by private car/van with English speaking driver
  3. meeting our local, private city guide in chosen language after arriving in Berlin and up to 3 hours of private walking tour during which you will see:
  • The Brandenburg Gate, the undisputed symbol of the city; an 18th-century neoclassical monument, the only remaining town gate of Berlin standing at the end of the Unter den Linden avenue,
  • The Reichstag, one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin; a meeting place of the Bundestag; firstly opened in 1894,
  • Museum Island, a famous museum complex on the Spree Island; one of the most visited sights of the city, since 1999 on the UNESCO World Heritage List,
  • Humboldt University, a public research university; established by Frederick William III in 1810,
  • Bebelplatz, one of the most attractive public squares in Berlin; site of the notorious Nazi book burning in 1933,
  • Gendarmenmarkt, famous for being the most beautiful square in the city, located in Berlin’s historic centre which covers 3.3 hectares,
  • remains of the Berlin Wall, a concrete barrier that surrounded West Berlin between 1961-1989, a physical symbol the Iron Curtain that separated Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War,
  • Checkpoint Charlie, the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point during the Cold War,
  • named by the Western Allies; after the reunification of Germany, it became a popular tourist attraction,
  • Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial; designed by Peter Eisenman Buro Happold; located in the heart of Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate; known as a place of contemplation and remembrance,
  • area of the former Fuhrer Bunker; a subterranean bunker complex; in the past an air raid shelter located near the Reich Chancellery; a place where Hitler and Eva Braun committed suicide,
  • former Luftwaffe HQ, constructed between February 1935 and August 1936; that time it was the largest office building in Europe, it housed the German Ministry of Aviation, headed by Hermann Göring,

4.approximately 3 hours of free time for lunch and further discovering the city on your own,
5.up to 4 hours drive back from Berlin to Wroclaw,
6.your hotel drop off in Wroclaw
