Zakopane: Kosice & Spis Castle Tour

Slovakia is a small country with many interesting places and beautiful cities to visit. One of them is Kosice which dates back to the 13th century and is the second biggest town in the country after its capital – Bratislava. This charming city is located in the eastern part, near the border with Hungary. In 2013 it was the European Capital of Culture and today it is also the center of trade and education. Before we arrive in Kosice we will take you to Spissky Hrad (Spis Castle) built in the 12th century. This is one of the biggest castle complexes in whole Central Europe which was included on the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage Sites in 1993. Local exhibitions will help you imagine how it looked like in the past.

Tour itinerary:

1. pick up from your hotel in Zakopane at chosen time
2. approx 1 hour and 45 min. drive from Zakopane to Spissky Hrad with private car/van and English speaking driver
3. visiting the castle for up to 2 hours on your own during which you will discover:

• interiors of the the mysterious hallways
• medieval rooms
• kitchen ammo storage
• torture chamber

4. approx 1 hour and 15 min. drive from Spis Castle to Kosice
5. 3 hours of free time to visit the city on your own and have lunch; we recommend to see:

• St. Elizabeth’s Castle – the largest church in Slovakia and easternmost Gothic Cathedral in Europe,
• Kosice State Theatre – built in the 19th century in the Neobaroque style
• Old Town Hall – it hosts cultural events such as concerts and theatrical performances, established in 1779
• Hlavna Street (Main street) – a charming lane where you can buy souvenirs and admire the Gothic Complex
• The Singing Fountain – a small park between the State Theatre and the Cathedral

6. approx 2,5 hours drive back from Kosice to Zakopane with the same vehicle and driver
7. drop off at your hotel in Zakopane
