Zakopane: Kosice Tour & Spissky Hrad Caslte

Slovakia is a small country which is mainly covered with mountains but it also has beautiful cities to visit. We can take you to Kosice which dates back to the 13th century and is the biggest town in the country after the capital – Bratislava. This charming city is located in the eastern part, near the boarder with Hungary. In 2013 it was the European Capital of Culture and today it is also the center of trade and education. The pedestrian area is very pretty with many colorful buildings and an interesting mix of architecture – from medieval Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Art Nouveau to Cubist and Classicist what only proves how rich the history of the city is. In the heart of Kosice you can admire one of the most beautiful market squares in the country surrounded by several stunning historical monuments. The most impressive one is the Gothic Cathedral of St. Elisabeth – the largest church in Slovakia. Once you decide to stroll along the main street – Hlavna Ulica – you will have the chance to explore not only the buildings from different periods in history but to cherish the moment by having a cup of hot coffee in one of the cozy cafes or shopping in the tiny craftsmen shops. The lane with its secret corners is wonderful. It is said that Kosice are an underrated city, “off the path” but it a place where you will certainly feel good thanks to its variety of attractions all in one place.

On the way to Kosice we will take you to Spissky Hrad Castle. This is one of the biggest complexs’ in Central Europe which has been noted on the list of UNESCO in 1993. The history of the castle starts in the 12th century. It was one of the few castles which were not destroyed during the Mongolian Invasion what led to more interest in it. It was occupied by royal families until there was a fire in 1780 which burnt down most of Spisky Hrad and left ruins. It wasn’t until the 20th century that conservation work began. During the tour you will discover the interiors of the the mysterious hallways, take a look into the middle age rooms, kitchen ammo storage and torture chamber.
