Krakow: Skiing & Snowboarding

Polish mountains may not be regarded as a paradise for skiers and snowboarders like Alps but don’t be misled – they still offer pretty good conditions to practice these sports during winter time. In Tatras as well as on other slopes in Poland, the skiing season runs from December to March.

The geographical location of Krakow allows both its residents and guests to choose from a wide range of skiing options. Some of the slopes for beginners are reachable within just a short ride from the centre, others, especially for advanced skiers, are worth a bit longer journey. Here in our offer we give you some recommendations on available options for this winter activity in the reasonable distance from Krakow but please keep in mind that we can organize any kind of package for you from half day excursions from Krakow to 1 week skiing holidays in mountain resorts depending on your preferences and expectations.

Option 1 – Podstolice Ski Station

A small ski station located just 20 km south of the center of Krakow (30 min ride one way), definitely the closest one to the city. Perfect for the first contact with the skis or snowboard and also a pretty good spot for kids who start their adventure with these sports.

There are two T-bar lifts (350 m and 220 m) and one 80 m baby lift (conveyor belt lift). All routes are artificially snowed and very well lit, which makes it possible to ride until late in the evening. So even if you see a snowless Krakow around you, do not worry. If it is not warmer than +10 Celsius degrees and it is not raining, conditions in Postolice should be decent enough to enjoy skiing or snowboarding.

More practical information and photos are available on the website of the ski station – Podstolice Ski Station

You can choose from 1 hour temporary pass to 2,3,4,5 hours up to full day pass or focus on point passes. You can also use the ski and snowboard equipment rental, where both complete sets of equipment and individual elements are available. You can also rent a sledge for children. Equipment rental does not require to be booked in advance as well as ski passes, that is why we do not include them in our price offer. You can decide on your own at the spot which options you choose. Prices are available on the official website of the station above.

Kasina is an artificially snowed and illuminated ski slope, described as medium difficult, situated approx. 50 km south of the center of Krakow (approx. 1 hour 20 min ride one way) in Beskid Wyspowy Mountains. It is of course much bigger and more impressive than Podstolice Ski Station thanks to its geographical location. Its characteristic feature is a uniform slope (21%) along the entire length of the route, which makes it an excellent ride for both beginners and experienced skiers.

The downhill runs (blue, red and black), with a total length of almost 2,700 meters and an altitude difference of 290 meters, run entirely in the forest, which improves the parameters and allows for a pleasant ride even in strong, gusty winds.

The trip to the upper station (900 m above sea level) takes less than 6 minutes and is provided by the 1100-meter-long 6-seater chairlift with special shutters that protect against frost and snow.

There are a couple of temporary passes options to choose from as well as a local ski and snowboard equipment rental point right next to the station. Equipment rental does not require to be booked in advance as well as ski passes, that is why we do not include them in our price offer. You can decide on your own at the spot which options you choose. Prices are available on the official website of the station: Kasina Ski Station
