Laser Removal of Varicose Veins in Poland

Chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins are diseases that affect over half of the world’s population over 45 years old, especially those which must stand many hours during their work. One of the symptoms is painful and unsightly looking baggy or spindle-shaped broadening of the superficial veins on the legs. They disfigure the legs, but above all they are a serious health problem. They usually cause swelling, numbness and a feeling of heaviness in the legs, cramps and pain in the calves. Luckily, the recent years have seen a real boom in laser techniques and systems in the treatment of varicose veins removal. It is a minimally invasive method and carries a much lower risk of complications and bruises than the traditional surgery.

What does the procedure look like?

Laser removal of varicose veins involves the introduction of an optical fiber into the inefficient vein under the control of the ultrasound machine. By withdrawing the fiber, the vein is closed with light energy from the inside. After the procedure, only a small scar remains at the puncture site, the vein becomes fibrotic within 3 to 6 months. It is safer and a much more better option than the traditional surgical removal after which you have to stay in the hospital and recover for 2 weeks.

Who should not do this treatment?

The treatment of varicose veins laser removal is intended for the majority of patients suffering from this ailment. Contraindications are usually the same as in the case of traditional surgery:

  • any active infection,
  • poor general condition,
  • advancement of other diseases,
  • inability to perform anesthesia,
  • allergies related to drugs used during the procedure,
  • coagulation disorders and local causes – obstruction or thrombosis of deep veins of the lower limb,
  • skin infection ,
  • superficial vein thrombosis, very tortuous long section of the vein
  • pregnancy
  • the use of drugs that reduce blood clotting

In the case of comorbidities, in order to minimize the risk of “non-surgical” complications, eg exacerbation of coronary heart disease, circulatory failure or respiratory failure, it will be consulted doctors of other specializations.

How long does it last?

The procedure itself takes about 30-40 minutes

Does it hurt?

It is painless (punctures during anesthesia may be a bit painful). The procedure does not require general or regional anesthesia. Tumescent anesthesia is used – a type of local anesthetic which consists in administering a large volume of a very diluted anesthetic around the treated vein. During the procedure, the surgeon will puncture the skin along the closed vein with a thin needle and administer an anesthetic. The advantage of this type of local anesthesia is high safety and the possibility of activating the patient immediately after the procedure.

Advantages of laser varicose veins removal:

Convalescence after laser varicose veins removal is much shorter than after classic varicose veins removal. Surgical varicose veins removal involves greater interference in the human body. There are then much larger hematomas and bruises, and the regeneration of the body usually takes longer. Any patient with diagnosed insufficiency of the saphenous and / or saphenous vein can undergo treatment, and the anatomical conditions allow for its implementation. Complications with laser surgery to remove varicose veins are much less frequent than with the traditional method.

When will I leave the clinic?
