Long Weekend in Gdansk

Gdansk is a perfect destination for a city break weekend. One of the most beautiful cities in Poland offers numerous monuments, picturesque narrow streets in the Old Town and very interesting sites in its surroundings. We suggest following plan as an example for a short stay in Gdansk which also includes some half-day and full-day excursions:

Day 1 – Transfer from Gdansk Airport to hotel + guided walking tour of Old Town

We provide private transfer from Gdansk Airport to hotel in Gdansk by private bus. Our local guide would be waiting for the group at the airport with a small board with the name of the group. Before we reach hotel we will organize short sightseeing which would include visit in Oliwa Park and Cathedral and Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers at Solidarnosci Square.
In the afternoon, our city guide will meet the group at their hotel and they will start their private walking tour of Gdansk’s Old Town. This tour would last up to 3 hours. Program will be exactly the same as on our website: Gdansk Old Town Walk

Day 2 – Visit in Water Forge + sightseeing of Sopot
Free time in the morning.
At 14:00 we can pick the group up from their hotel and start a half day tour which would include visit in old Water Forge from 16th century. It consists of two wooden buildings separated by Oliwski Streem. In each building there is a heating furnace and hammer powered by water wheels of 4 m. diameter. Tools in the Forge are able to cut a red hot iron of 4 cm thickness. Since 1957 Forge has been maintained by Historical Museum from Warsaw. In 1978 it was officially opened for visitors. Today you can admire here many interesting tools used for treatment of steel, some of which are really unique. Group will attend a special show inside the Water Forge which include performance of work of many different tools located in the Forge. This show lasts approx 45 minutes.
Afterwards we will continue our tour to Sopot – fancy sea resort on Baltic coast situated between Gdansk and Gdynia. We will take a walk along its main street of Bohaterow Monte Cassino. Special attraction would be a pearl of modern architecture – so-called Crooked House (taking photo is a must here) and a longest wooden pier in Europe. We can also arrange dinner in Sopot instead of Gdansk.

Day 3 – Full day excursion to Slowinski National Park or to Hel Peninsula

We recommend 2 options for a full day tour.

1) Tour to Slowinski National Park which is renowned for its large, shifting sand dunes. There are mobile dunes up to 42 meters high which can move at a rate of about 9 meters a year, leaving the stumps of dead trees behind them. The area was once a gulf, of which the glacial lakes Lebsko and Gardno are vestiges. The park, a World Biosphere Reserve, is a heaven for wild birds; more than 250 species can be found here. The park’s highest point, Rowokol, offers a fine view of the dunes. Considering the fact that group consists of old people, we can make it easier by renting special electric cars inside the Park which will limit walking just to going up some dunes. On the way back to Gdansk we will also visit a small village of Kluki, located on the Lake Lebsko, where there is a skansen dedicated to the ancient local Slovincian culture. Fishing equipment and agricultural implements are exhibited in the farmsteads.

2) Tour of Hel Peninsula which main attraction is double beach – one part facing the open sea, the other the Gulf of Gdansk. On the way we will stop in Rozewie – northernmost cape in Poland with picturesque lighthouse. We will also visit many popular sea resorts like Wladyslawowo, Jastrzebia Gora, Jurata, Chalupy and finally we will reach Hel. We will visit here a very special place – Seal Centre. During this tour we can have a lot of free time.

Day 4 – Half day excursion to Malbork Castle + transfer to the airport

We can pick the group up from their hotel at 10:00 a.m. and take for a tour to Malbork -former capital of the Teutonic State where you can admire the famous castle of the Teutonic Knights. This huge brick castle on the river is one of the most imposing medieval defensive structures in Europe, put by UNESCO on the World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The castle is surrounded by belts of defensive walls with gates and towers. Today the castle is the museum. Apart from its fine Gothic interiors and details of design, it contains collection of amber artefacts, works of artistic handicraft, porcelain and faience, Gothic sculptures and historic weapons. We can have a lunch break in Malbork after sightseeing and then go straight to Gdansk airport. If we leave from Gdansk at 10:00 a.m. we should be at the airport at 16:30.
