Wegorzewo is a tourist town in the Warmian – Masurian Voivodeship, not far from the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast. It is the seat of Wegorzewo County. Town lies on the Wegorapa River, which flows out of Lake Mamry. Wegorzewo is a large holiday and tourism centre, with sailing facilities. Wegorzewo is a centre of food, metal, clothing and wood industry. The town is famous for the music festivals which take place in summertime, including a rock festival, a sailors’ song festival, and a poetic song festival. The locality obtained town rights in the 15th and 16th c. the 14th c. Teutonic castle was rebuilt in the 18th c. in the Baroque style. The Museum of Folk Culture in a 19th c. town house has archaeological, historical and ethnographic exhibits connected with the region and the home regions of the settlers brought here after World War II. The Parish Church has a late-Renaissance interior decoration and was rebuilt.
