Katowice: Tour to Wroclaw

Katowice is located quite close to one of Poland’s most attractive cities to visit – Wroclaw. For the past few years it has developed into a popular destination for a city break in Europe and can boast of many interesting sites for tourists. Together with our guide, you will have a chance to discover its long history, admire the beautiful architecture and valuable monuments which you can find at almost every corner. What is more, Wroclaw is famous for its dwarfs which are situated all around the Old Town and looking for them will be a fun attraction while getting to know this lovely city. You will also have time to stroll around the charming streets and explore it on your own. Join us for this pleasant tour to the city which is known as the „Polish Venice”.

Tour itinerary:

  1. early morning hotel pick up and transfer with our English speaking driver to the railway station in Katowice (exact time depends on train schedule)
  2. receiving 2nd class return tickets for economic standard fast train connection between Katowice and Wroclaw and assistance of our driver at the platform
  3. comfortable journey by train on your own (approx 2 hours and 15 min)
  4. getting off the train in Wroclaw and meeting our local, private city guide at the platform
  5. approximately 3 hours of a private guided walking tour around the Old Town area in chosen language during which you will see:
  • Old Market Square – the second-largest market in Poland after the one in Krakow
  • Town Hall – a significant example of the Gothic architecture in this part of Europe
  • Salt Market – nowadays it is also known as the Flower Market; here salt from the biggest Polish mines and other goods were traded since the Middle Ages until the 19th century
  • St. Elizabeth’s Church – the highest church in Wroclaw
  • Stare Jatki lane – the place where you can find the Memorial to Slaughtered Animals
  • Tenement houses “Jas” & “Malgosia” / ‘Hansel & Gretel’ – two narrow buildings connecting two streets which remind a couple holding hands
  • City prison on Wiezienna Street – one of the oldest buildings in Wroclaw
  • Main building of the University of Wroclaw – an impressive example of the Baroque style; one of the most representative buildings in the city; it is possible to visit and admire the interior
  • University Church of the Blessed Name of Jesus – this Late Baroque church is considered to be one of the most beautiful ones in Central Europe
  • Ossolineum Palace – an outstanding Baroque monument where you can find significant libraries and national archives
  • Nankier Square – the location of the Hochberg’s Chapel – another pearl of the Baroque architecture
  • Market Hall – an indoor marketplace with a wide variety of fresh products, dairy, etc.
  • Sand Island – considered to be one of the most prettiest islands in Wroclaw among all the 12 ones thanks to the fact that it is architecturally attractive
  • Ostrow Tumski / Cathedral Island – in the past it was an island on the Odra River; it is the oldest part of Wroclaw with precious and important historic monuments
  • St. John’s Baptist Cathedral – the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Wroclaw; known to be the first brick building in Poland

6.approx. 3 hours of free time for lunch and for deeper exploration of the city on your own
7.reaching the railway station in Wroclaw on your own after free time,
8.around 2 hours and 15 min journey back by train from Wroclaw to Katowice
9.pick up at the platform of railway station in Katowice by our English speaking driver and transfer back to your hotel in Katowice
