Zakopane: Morskie Oko Lake Tour

While staying in Zakopane, a must-see attraction is the biggest lake in the Tatra Mountains – the Morskie Oko Lake. This postglacial, emerald-green lake lays 1395 meters above the sea level and its name means “The Eye of the Sea”. It is considered to be one of the most famous and gorgeous mountain lakes in Europe. Situated at the Rybi Potok Valley surrounded by rock peaks of Tatra Mountains reaching up to 1000 metres above the surface of the lake. The unique crystal clear water and often snowy mountains around it create the truly breathtaking view. Here is also located one of the oldest wooden shelters in the Tatras where you can have a delicious traditional Polish meal and refresh. This is a place you definitely cannot miss while being in this region!

Tour itinerary:

1. pick up from your hotel in Zakopane
2. up to 30 min. drive to the parking in Palenica Bialczanska
3. entrance to the Tatra National Park
4. approx 2,5 hours walk to the Morskie Oko Lake along the red route/trail which is 8 km long one way – this route is one of the most popular ones in the Tatra Mountains, it is easy and pleasant for walkers in every age; on the way, you will have the chance to admire and cherish the nature around you; in the middle of the walk you will see:

• the White Water Valley – among the peaks visible high in the sky you can see Gerlach lying on the Slovak side (2655 m) – the highest peak not only of the Tatra Mountains, but also of the whole Carpathians when there are good weather conditions
• Waterfalls of Mickiewicz – picturesque waterfalls formed by three major and several smaller cascades; known as the “Gravity falls” because the sound of falling water, especially after heavy rainfall, reminds the sound of thunder

5. once you reach Morskie Oko, you will have approx 1 hour to have lunch in the shelter, take pictures, walk around the lake and rest
6. approx 2 hours walk back to the parking in Palenica Bialczanska along the red trail
7. up to 30 min. drive back to Zakopane
8. drop off at your hotel
