Zakopane: Krakow & Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour

Once you have had the chance to visit Zakopane, we would highly recommend to visit other must-see places of Lesser Poland region which are Krakow and the Salt Mine in Wieliczka. Krakow – once the capital of the country – attracts millions of tourists every year. The city has a long, interesting history and an enormous amount of monuments to see. Thanks to the fact that it was not destroyed during World War II, it can boast with its beauty and great atmosphere. While strolling down the charming streets and admiring the architecture, you will have the chance to reveal the secrets of the city. Before you have a good time in Krakow, we will first take you to famous Salt Mine in Wieliczka which is one the oldest mines in the world and is noted on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is also probably the most reminiscent of Tolkien’s Moria place in the world. You have to see it!

Tour itinerary:

  1. pick up from your hotel in Zakopane at chosen time
  2. approx 2 hours and 45 min drive from Zakopane to the Wieliczka Salt Mine by private car/van and with our English speaking driver
  3. visiting the Salt Mine for up to 2,5 hours along the standard tourist path with a professional local guide in chosen language; during this guided tour you will see:
  • the famous Chapel of St Kinga with amazing salt reliefs carved by the miners in the walls and huge crystal chandeliers – situated 101 metres under the ground level,
  • beautiful chambers with the traces of former exploitation of the salt
  • salt lakes,
  • collection of wooden mining machines and equipment,
  • underground buildings

4. 1 hour of free time for lunch after sightseeing
5. up to 45 min drive from Wieliczka Salt Mine to Krakow city centre

  • Main Market Square – one of the largest and most beautiful once in Europe with famous monument to Adam Mickiewicz (great Polish poet), historic Cloth Hall in the centre, St. Mary’s Basilica – 14th century, impressive brick Gothic church and Town Hall Tower

  • Barbican with the part of the medieval defensive walls of the city
  • Florianska Gate and Florianska Street – most popular one in Krakow

  • Wawel Royal Castle with the Cathedral – one of the most important monuments in Poland due to its historical value; place where for centuries Polish Kings were crowned and buried

  • up to 3 hours drive back to Zakopane from Krakow by the same vehicle with the same driver
