Mragowo

Mragowo is a district town in the Mragowo Lakeland on Lakes Czos and Juno in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship of north-eastern Poland, the capital of Mragowo County and the seat (though not part of) the Gmina Mragowo. The most important river in the locality is the Krutynia. The south-eastern part of the commune of Mragowo lies within the Masurian Landscape Park. Owing to its attractive location among lakes and forests as well as its various tourist attractions, Mragowo serves as the summer capital of the region. Lovers of leisure activities can come here for canoeing, hiking, cycling, excursions by coach, horse riding, and sunbathing on the clean beaches by the lakes. The town offers many interesting hiking routes, cycle tracks and waterways leading to places such as Ketrzyn, Reszel, Swieta Lipka and the Great Masurian Lakes. Mragowo is know for its Piknik Country, a three-day International Festival of Country Music held in July, when the town turns into the American Wild West. The Festival of Kresy (borderland) Culture takes place here in mid-August. It is accompanied by open-air painting workshops and exhibitions. Folk bands from Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic come to Mragowo.
