Katowice: Ogrodzieniec Castle Tour
Let us take you to the Krakow – Czestochowa upland which is a limestone mountain range formed in the Jurassic period and located only 50 km north-east of Katowice. It was here where the King of Poland Kazimierz Wielki (the Great) started strengthening Polish borders in 14th century by building so-called ‘Eagles’ Nests’ – the defence system of castles and fortresses. We will show you one of the most picturesque castles on this trail – Ogrodzieniec Castle. It was built on the highest hill of the Upland (515 metres) so its location gives today’s ruins of the castle an amazing look. Although it has been destroyed several times during wars and finally abandoned around the year 1810, it is definitely worth visiting.
