Northeastern Poland Tour – 8 days

If you want to discover mysterious places of Polish land, explore corners which haven’t been affected by mass tourism yet and admire wonderful unspoilt nature in the same time, we offer you a fantastic journey into Northeastern Poland. You will learn more about Bialowieza Primeval Forest, Biebrza National Park, you will get to know various culture and religions which were maintained on this area through ages and see incredible places.

Day 1

We will pick you up from Warsaw Chopin Airport/railway station and take to your hotel. Accommodation and free time.

Day 2

After breakfast, our English-speaking guide will take you from your hotel for an exciting journey. You will visit Holy Mount of Grabarka – the most important Orthodox sanctuary in Poland and you will have a chance to admire other Orthodox churches spread on this part of the country. Then, you will head toward a pristine Bialowieza Primeval Forest which has been inscribed into UNESCO’s List and which is famous for a unique mammal species of European Bison. You will visit the European Bison Show Reserve where you will able to see this majestic animal as well as other species such as wolves or lynxes. You will have time to take a walk along the Royal Oaks Trail or visit the Bialowieza Palace Park and Museum of Natural History. Overnight in Bialowieza or Siolo Budy.

Day 3

Early in the morning, you will set off on the trip to wild areas of Bialowieza forest. Maybe, you will notice some crouching animals? After a lunch break you will go to the next points of our programme. You will explore Podlasie region called the “Land of open shutters” thanks to outstanding villages with ornamented wooden cottages with colourfully painted shutters. In the afternoon, you will stop in Tykocin. It is a small town which is famous for having been a Jewish shtetl (a small town with large Jewish populations). You will see the magnificent Renaissance synagogue there. Then, you will visit a little village of Pentowo where you will able to observe white storks. Overnight in Bialystok.

Day 4

After breakfast, you will head toward the charming town of Suprasl where the historic complex of the Eastern Orthodox Monastery is located. The monastery presents a unique architecture, mixing two Byzantine and Gothic styles. This unusual place offers a rich collection of icons from 18th and 19th centuries. The next point of our tour is the small village of Kruszyniany. You will see the Polish oldest wooden mosque which has preserved up today. It was most probably built in the 18th century by Tatar community. There is also located a Muslim cemetery called mizar. Then, you will have dinner in the original Tatar restaurant. When you come to Bialystok, our guide will show you the most interesting places of Bialystok which is the capital city of north-east Poland. Overnight in Bialystok.

Day 5

This day is devoted to an exploration of remarkable nature of North-eastern Poland. You will visit Biebrza National Park which is the largest area of marshland in Central Europe. During the time between March and June, many birds species and mosses can be observed. Then, we will go to the north, to Augustow which is famous for the historic Canal and the lock complex. It is world class monument of the art of hydro-technology from the beginning of the 19th century. You will take a cruise on the canal and have a chance to admire a fantastic landscape of the passing area. Afterwards, you will go to Suwalki. Overnight in Suwalki.

Day 6

In the morning, you will go to Wigry National Park which area is stretching around the wonderful Wigry Lake. You will visit the marvellous Baroque monastery complex erected in the 18th century by the Camaldolese order. This is a real gem of sacral architecture with the monastery, a church and hermitages. The next stop will be nearby the small village of Stanczyki. You will be impressed by the stunning view of two giant viaducts crossing a vast valley. Then, you will drive to the another outstanding place – a mysterious Egyptian-style pyramid in Rapa. It is a mausoleum of the Prussian barons’ family erected in the 19th century. On the way to Ketrzyn, you will have a chance to admire fantastic views over the wonderful Masurian lakes. Overnight in Ketrzyn.

Day 7

After breakfast, you will go to Gierloz where Wolf’s Lair is located. Wolf’s Lair is a former Adolf Hitler’s military headquarters. It was one of a kind, truly hidden city complex with barracks, shelters, two airports, water supplies, a power station, plants, a railway station. You will explore bunkers hidden in the Mazurian woods. Then, you will head toward Swieta Lipka which is famous for Poland’s oldest Marian sanctuary. It is a pearl of Baroque architecture. You will also visit the medieval town of Reszel where the the 14th-century Gothic castle, built by the Teutonic Order, is located. After that, you will come back to Warsaw. Overnight in Warsaw.

Day 8

After breakfast, you will drive to the airport/railway station.
