Warsaw: Jewish Sites Tour

Are you interested in history of Jewish community in Poland? Between the 19th century and the beginning of World War 2, current capital of Poland used to be considered as the most important city of European Jewish culture. In 1939 it was the city with the largest population of Jews in Europe and second largest in the world after New York. You can book with us a special version of the city tour dedicated to sites related with history of Jews that lived in Warsaw before and during World War 2.

Tour itinerary:

  1. hotel pick up at chosen time
  2. partially driving tour and partially walking tour of up to 4 hours total during which we will show you:
  • the old Jewish district – located in the northern part of Warsaw, at the time of creation it covered an area of approx. 2.6 thousand square kilometers.
  • Nozyk Synagogue – the only remaining Warsaw’s synagogue. In 1940 it was closed and devastated by German Nazis
  • Kirkut – the old Jewish cemetery – the only Jewish cemetery in Warsaw where burials still take place.
  • former Jewish Ghetto area – the center of Jewish culture before World War II, where you will see the remainings of the early vibrant city area, such as Zamenhoff, Mila and Nalewski streets.
  • Umschlagplatz – square which during World War II was a place of concentration of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto before being transported to the Treblinka extermination camp and other German death camps. It was a location of railway ramp that no longer exist.
  • Ghetto Heroes Monument – a monument honoring all brave Jews, located near the place of the first Jewish and German Nazi fights.

Tour is available every day (except Friday afternoon and Saturday) at chosen time

If you wish we can expand the tour by the audio-guided visit in Polin Museum – Museum of the History of Polish Jews. It was opened in 2005 and changed location for the one that we can see now in 2013. It is not just a regular museum, but it also shows cultural and educational values. The museum presents the history of Jews in Poland from their arrival to the present day. You can see there exhibitions that show the contribution of Jews to the development of Polish culture, science and the economy. “Polin” means “Poland” in Hebrew.

Whole tour with the visit in Polin Museum takes up to 6 hours.
