Warsaw: Majdanek & Lublin Tour
Majdanek was a German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp established in occupied Poland in the outskirts of Lublin in 1941 by decision of Heinrich Himmler – main architect of Holocaust. Although it was designed to keep mainly Russian Soviet war prisoners and use them as free workforce, it was modified many times and finally in 1943, Majdanek was turned into death camp where nearly 360 000 people lost their lives. During this tour you will visit State Museum of Majdanek – best preserved camp of Holocaust and discover its cruel history. You will also walk around Old Town of Lublin and admire beautiful and valuable complex of historic buildings.
Tour itinerary:
- hotel pick up at chosen time
- up to 2,5 hours driving from Warsaw to Majdanek State Museum by private car/van with English speaking driver
- guided sightseeing tour of Majdanek Concentration Camp with private local guide in chosen language – around 2 – 2,5 hours visit during which you will be able to see:
- place of camp entrance gate – first step of the prisoners way, the location where the gate was originally standing is now a place of the Monument to Struggle and Martyrdom,
- crematorium – it consisted of a set of ovens with five places for burning corpses,
- cremation pyres – in open air up to 100 corpses were burnt at one time,
- prisoner camps – wooden barracks for accommodating prisoners,
- gas chambers – surrounded by barbed wire and a 3-metre fence were used for the mass extermination of prisoners,
- selection square – called Rosengarten (“rose garden”) was a place where Jews brought from the ghettos were sorted for suitability for work
- exhibitions dedicated to: living conditions in the camp, Majdanek in past and present, exposition of victims’ shoes etc.

- Old Town area with 14th century Krakow Gate – architectural symbol of the city and major part of medieval fortification system and Main Market Square with beautiful, historical townhouses and Town Hall
- Lublin Royal Castle – one of the landmarks of the city which together with Chapel of the Holy Trinity is one of the most important monuments in Poland
Whole tour lasts approximately 10-11 hours
