Warsaw: Tour to Wieliczka & Krakow

Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the greatest mining museums in Europe, one of the Polish official national Historic Monuments and one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country. About 1.2 million people visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine each year.

This ancient Salt Mine has been operating since the 13th century without any intermissions. It reaches a depth of 327 meters and extends via horizontal passages for over 287 kilometers.

Today, the mine features a 3,5km tourist route (including chambers and passages), different kinds of exhibits (presenting history of the salt mining) and an underground lake.

Wieliczka Salt Mine is located 15 km from Krakow – one of the most beautiful cities in Poland. We offer a one day tour to the Wieliczka Salt Mine by train combined with a short visit in Krakow.

Option 1 – Tour by train

Tour itinerary:

  1. early morning hotel pick up (exact time depends on train schedule),
  2. transfer to the train station by comfortable car, accompanied by English speaking driver who will give you return train tickets,
  3. journey by train from Warsaw to Krakow (approx. 3 hours),
  4. arrival in Krakow, meeting our driver at the train platform,
  5. joining a group tour to Wieliczka Salt Mine (including 30- 40 minutes ride from Krakow) Sightseeing of the Salt Mine lasts approx. 2 hours. 3,5km tourist route (less than 2 percent of the mine passages total length) includes:
  • climbing 800 steps,
  • Saint Anthony’s Chapel, with a majestic chandelier made of lumps of salt,
  • Janowice chamber, presenting famous legend about the beginnings of the mine,
  • The Kazimierz Wielki Chamber, a huge space where you can learn about the role of the animals in the salt mine,
  • Saint Kinga’s Chapel, probably the most beautiful underground chapel in Poland, full of salt sculptures and reliefs, created by mine workers,
  • Erazm Baracz chamber with an underground lake,
  • Michalowice Chamber,
  • Jozef Pilsudzki Chamber, with 10m length water tunnel from XIX century,
  • Saint Jan’s Chapel, in the past, it was the most important sacred place of the mine,
  • underground museum, presenting paintings of St Kinga and former rulers, mining clothes exhibition etc.
  • underground souvenir shop.

6. return to Krakow (approx. 30 minutes of ride),
7. free time in Krakow, perfect moment for lunch and walk around the Old Town. Exact time depends on the train schedule (approx. 4 hours),
8. getting the train station of Krakow on your own (central station is located very close to the Old Town),
9. return journey to Warsaw (approx. 3 hours),
10. meeting the driver at the train platform, transfer to your hotel.

Then our driver will take you to Krakow where you can choose among some free time or a private guided tour in chosen language.
