Second World War was the largest war in history and began in 1939 with the German aggression on Poland. During the years of the war Poland suffered a lot. In August 1944 Polish underground Home Army launched an uprising in Warsaw against the occupying Germans. The uprising lasted over two months and led to complete destruction of the city as well as the loss of tens of thousands of lives. As you can imagine there are lots of places in the city today strongly related to those events from terrible war times.

- The Nike Monument – knows also as Monument to the Heroes of Warsaw that shows a reclining woman ready to fight. It commemorates all people who defended Warsaw during the War
- Krasinskich Square with Warsaw Uprising Monument – square located right by the Old Town with one of the most important monuments in Poland built in honor of the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising.
- PAST building – built as a telephone exchange building became a place of intensive fights that were fought for it during the Warsaw Uprising.
- Pawiak Prison – during the years of the Second World War it was the largest German political prison on the territory of occupied Poland.
- The former Jewish Ghetto, The Ghetto Heroes Monument and the Museum of the history of Polish Jews – you need to know that Warsaw in 1939 year was the place with the largest concentration of Jews in Europe and second the largest in the world after New York.
- Warsaw Uprising Museum (without visit inside) – built in tribute from Poles for those who fought and died for Poland’s independence

If you wish we can expand the tour by the audio-guided visit in Warsaw Uprising Museum. It was opened July 31, 2004, on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. The museum is a kind of “living” documentation of the history of this battle and houses exhibitions of: weapons, documents, letters, personal items that belonged to people fighting for Poland, 1500 photographs, over 200 biographical and historical information, as well as maps, boards and films from 1944.
Whole tour with the visit in Warsaw Uprising Museum takes up to 6 hours. Audio-guides are available in 27 different languages.
