Krakow: Zakopane & Dunajec River Rafting

This full day tour is dedicated to those who like mountains and want to see as much as possible during one day excursion from Krakow. We offer you pretty unique opportunity to experience traditional rafting on Dunajec River in Pieniny Mountains National Park combined with visiting most famous mountain resort in Poland – Zakopane, situated at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. It will be a day full of attractions, beautiful views and contact with nature. You will admire two different types of mountains near the southern border of Poland with Slovakia and meet local, highlander folklore of those two regions, especially visible in the centre of Zakopane.

We offer private, combined tours of Dunajec River rafting and Zakopane from Krakow on request.

Tour itinerary:

  1. hotel pick up at chosen time in the morning
  2. approx 2,5 hours drive from Krakow to Sromowce Nizne by private car/van with English speaking driver
  3. meeting with local rafter at the beginning of rafting route
  4. Dunajec river rafting for up to 2,5 hours total during which you will see:
  • Red Monastery – made of red brick in 14th century, reconstructed later and not red anymore, located on Slovakian side of the border (Dunajec River is a natural border between Poland and Slovakia)
  • Three Crowns – the highest peak in the Pieniny Mountains
  • Sokolica – one of the peaks of Pieniny Mountains, famous for being a great viewpoint to admire the canyon of the Dunajec River and the Tatra Mountains in the further distance – the highest mountains in Poland
  • numerous steep rock formations and forests of Pieniny National Park

5. free time for lunch in Szczawnica right after the rafting
6. approx 1,5 hour drive from Szczawnica to Zakopane
7. stop nearby the Wielka Krokiew (Great Krokiew) in Zakopane – famous ski jumping hill where each winter season important ski jumping events take place
8. up to 3 hours of free time for exploring centre of Zakopane by yourself during which you will have a chance to:

  • take a walk down the Krupowki Street – main street of this winter capital of Poland, and admire local highlanders’ architecture
  • taste famous and delicious „oscypek” which is traditional, local, hard smoked cheese
  • take the funicular ride up Gubalowka Mountain and have a wonderful view from its top towards the highest parts of Tatra Mountains

9. drive back from Zakopane to your hotel in Krakow (approx 2,5 hours depending on traffic
10. your hotel drop off in Krakow

Whole tour lasts approximately 13 hours

*additional service of private professional guide in chosen language (English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Russian) who would assist you during whole tour also during the rafting would cost extra 650 PLN per guide
*rafting season lasts from April 1st until October 31st. Every day besides Easter Sunday and the Corpus Christi Holiday
