Work permit

In recent years Poland has become an attractive job market with very low unemployment and decent salaries. However if you are planning to pursue a professional career here and you are not a citizen of European Union or Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you will probably need to obtain work permits.

There are five major types of work permits:

Type A – most popular type of work permit. It is required if foreigner is employed either on the basis of employment contract or civil law contract by an employer with an office registered in Poland.

Type B – required if foreigner performs work consisting in performing a function in the management board of a legal person entered in the register of entrepreneurs or being a capital company in organization, or in connection with running the affairs of a limited partnership or limited joint-stock partnership as a general partner, or in connection with granting them a procuration for a total period exceeding 6 months in consecutive 12 months.

Type C – required if foreigner is delegated to Poland by a foreign employer for a period that exceeds 30 days in a calendar year to work for the foreign employer’s subsidiary or branch.

Type D – required if foreigner is delegated by foreign employer to work in export services in an occasional and temporary manner. It is important that the foreign employer does not have a branch or subsidiary of its own in Poland.

Type E – required if foreigner performs work for a foreign employer and is posted to the territory of Poland for a period of more than 30 days within consecutive 6 months for a purpose other than for the type B, C, D permits.
